( His shirt is absolutely soaked, his flannel clings to his biceps and his shoulders. His hair's wet and his shoes are in the shower. And.
Yep.
Just.
Really close. Smelling soap. Naked skin. Probably tastes like water. Cas is doing that triangle gaze look and Dean knows what that implies, and his breath catches a little in his throat. His Adam's apple bobs as he swallows, and there's an absent idle realization in the back of his mind about how easy it could be. To lean in. An intrusive image. )
Right.
( With an agreeable nod, voice a little low.
Another awkward beat of silence.
He gestures to the exterior of the shower with a little nod. )
[ the air's thick with steam and dean's shirt is clinging to his muscled chest and arms, and cas can't think about any of that too long, lest his body begin to react, and it's all deeply unfair.
the way his wet hair plasters to his forehead is an endearing kind of cute, and the passing urge to reach up and sweep it back flickers through cas's head. nope, not going there either. they're so close and it'd be so easy. just a twitch or a stumble. it's hard not to wonder what it'd feel like, to press up against him like this.
nope. nope nope nope, not going there either. cas's fingers twitch at his sides, fidgeting, but otherwise, he doesn't budge. ]
Right.
[ he follows up, clearing his throat, but still finds it nigh impossible to look anywhere but dean's face, stuck in a stunned trance. ]
There's a towel, if you want it.
[ out there, on the other side of the shower curtain. you're welcome to take that, since you're all, you know. showered now. which leaves cas without a towel, actually, but he'll cross that bridge when he comes to it (when he stops thinking about water trickling down dean's throat and beneath his collar long enough to remember it). ]
( Brusquely, and without looking out for aforementioned towel.
Because of the expression on Cas's face, and because of how rooted he feels in this moment. Just, like... two more seconds.
And then he forces himself to snap out of it with an abrupt— )
Okay--
( Eyes averted, very quickly making his exit in stark contrast to how long he kind of hovered there. He doesn't go for the towel. Instead he hurries wide-eyed and dripping out the damn bathroom, shutting the door too loudly behind him.
And then shutting his own door too loudly behind him there.
dean makes his swift retreat, water-logged boots making a soppy smack against the tile, and cas knows he didn't pause to so much as wring out his shirt before making a break for it. that's all much more expected than any of the rest of this has been.
and man, has it been something.
for a couple minutes, cas stands rooted in the same spot, breathing deeply as he replays that interaction in his head. closes his eyes at some point, the ache of lost opportunity and longing growing a little sharper in his chest.
where he'd been warmed by dean's proximity before, body heat and steam trapped between them, soaking into his bare skin, there's a chill now, pulling a light shiver through him.
this... this is not sustainable. something's going to break between them, and cas prays it won't completely ruin them.
it'll be another 20 minutes, at least, before he switches off the water and finds that towel. ]

Go now. )

That sure.
Happened.
Guess he'll just die. )
